If you spot something wrong in an article on Headlines UK, we want to hear from you. Our corrections process is designed to fix mistakes openly and promptly, because trust depends on accuracy. This page explains how we handle errors, how you can report them, and what happens after we receive your report.
Every story we publish is written by a named journalist, reviewed by an editor, and checked by our fact-checking team. But mistakes can still occur, whether a factual slip, a misattributed quote, or a minor typo. Our commitment is to correct any material error – something that meaningfully changes the understanding of the article – as quickly as possible, with a clear note explaining what was wrong and what has been changed. Non-material errors, like trivial spelling or formatting issues, are fixed without a note.
How do I report an error?
The quickest way to report a mistake is to email our dedicated corrections address: corrections@headlinesuk.uk. Please include the full URL of the article, a description of what you believe is incorrect, and, if possible, the source or evidence supporting your correction. You can also contact us via the general email info@headlinesuk.uk, but using the corrections address ensures your report reaches the right team first.
If the issue is urgent or you would prefer to speak to someone directly, you can call our UK editorial line on +44 20 4587 9485 and ask for the newsdesk. However, we recommend using email so we have a written record of the concern. We aim to acknowledge receipt of all correction reports within 24 hours on weekdays.
How does Headlines UK handle corrections?
All correction reports are reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Oliver Reeves (oliver.reeves@headlinesuk.uk), or a member of his team. They assess whether the reported error is material – that is, likely to mislead a reasonable reader – or non-material. For material errors, the article is updated, and a correction note is added at the bottom of the page or, where the error is significant, at the top. The note states the original error and the correction, along with the date it was corrected.
If we determine that no correction is needed, we will explain our reasoning to the person who reported it. In cases where the complaint involves a dispute over interpretation or opinion rather than a clear factual error, it may be handled under our complaints procedure instead. The typical response time for a final decision on a correction report is five working days. If the issue is complex or requires additional fact-checking, we will keep the reporter informed of progress and aim to resolve it within ten working days. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can escalate the matter to our Editor-in-Chief, David Harwood (david.harwood@headlinesuk.uk), who will review the case personally.
How this works in practice
Suppose we published an article stating that a government department had announced a new policy on Tuesday. A reader emails corrections@headlinesuk.uk pointing out that the announcement actually occurred on Wednesday, citing the official press release. Oliver Reeves’ team verifies the press release, confirms the date is wrong, and decides it is a material error because readers might rely on the timing of the announcement. Within hours, the article is updated to read “Wednesday,” and a correction note is appended: “Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the policy was announced on Tuesday. It was announced on Wednesday. This has been corrected.” The journalistic integrity of the story remains intact; the public gets accurate information.
Who is responsible for corrections and oversight?
The Standards & Fact-Checking Desk, led by Oliver Reeves, is responsible for processing all correction reports and maintaining our accuracy records. He works with the relevant section editor – for example, Politics Editor Thomas Whitmore for Westminster stories, or Business Correspondent Amelia Grant for economic articles – to ensure the correction is properly applied. Final editorial authority rests with Editor-in-Chief David Harwood, who oversees publication standards and has the power to order significant corrections or retractions. Headlines UK is operated by Sliema Media Limited, a Malta-registered company (C 84217), but our editorial decisions are made independently in our UK newsroom. For more about our editorial standards, see our Editorial Policy and Fact-Checking Policy. If your concern is not a simple factual error but a broader complaint about an article, please refer to our Complaints Procedure.
In short
We take every error seriously and fix it clearly and quickly. If you find a mistake, email corrections@headlinesuk.uk and we will investigate, correct the record, and explain what changed. It is that straightforward because your trust is the foundation of our journalism.
