If you believe we have made a mistake, breached our editorial standards, or published something that is inaccurate or unfair, this page explains how to raise a complaint and what you can expect from us. We treat complaints seriously and aim to resolve them promptly and transparently.
How do I submit a complaint?
Send an email to complaints@headlinesuk.uk with the details of your concern. Please include the full URL of the article or page, a clear description of what you believe is wrong, and why you consider it a breach of our standards. Providing your name and a contact address helps us respond efficiently. You can also write to our editorial team at editorial@headlinesuk.uk, but the complaints address is the dedicated channel and ensures your message reaches the correct team first.
What happens after I submit a complaint?
We will acknowledge receipt within two business days, usually by email. Oliver Reeves, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, or the relevant section editor will review your complaint against our editorial policy. Where the issue concerns accuracy, we will consult the named writer and check original sources. We aim to give you a substantive response within ten working days. If we uphold your complaint, we will issue a correction or clarification in line with our corrections policy and update the article as appropriate.
How this works in practice
Imagine an article on local council tax incorrectly states that a particular borough’s increase is 5% when the actual figure is 3.8%. A reader spots the error and emails complaints@headlinesuk.uk with the article link and their evidence. The fact-check team reviews the source document, confirms the mistake, and flags it to the Politics & Public Affairs Editor. The article is corrected online, a note is added at the bottom explaining the change, and the reader receives an apology and an explanation within seven days. That is the process we follow every time.
What if I’m not satisfied with the outcome?
If you feel your complaint has not been dealt with fairly, you can escalate it to David Harwood, our Editor-in-Chief. Email him directly at david.harwood@headlinesuk.uk with the reference number from your earlier correspondence. He will review the entire case, including how it was handled, and will respond within five working days. His decision is final in relation to our publication, but you remain free to take the matter to an independent press regulator if one has jurisdiction.
